Palmhive celebrates 20 years of fly netting solutions

In 1996 a series of intensive trials were conducted at Yorkshire Water plc to find a solution to fly nuisance problems arising at waste water treatment works.

Palmhive’s answer was warp knit, ultra-violet treated, High-Density Polyethylene netting. It was soon approved for use and brought environmental benefit by eliminating the need for chemical dosing.

Twenty years on and Palmhive continues to win contracts for the supply and installation of replacement netting across the UK’s waste water treatment sites.

Specially developed containment nets act as an effective physical barrier and reduce emerging adult nuisance fly by around 98%.

Complete systems, including bespoke netting, manufactured to suit individual biological filter beds with stone or plastic media and special netting for ‘dry areas’ are offered. The most persistent of adult fly emergence is preventable.

In-house technicians carry out installation using durable stainless steel fittings, which optimises the entire containment system against weather conditions.

In Palmhive’s 20th year of providing these solutions, it is fitting that the largest contract for 2016, so far, has been with the original tester of the system, Yorkshire Water plc.
